Day 5x: Next on the Agenda

Thursday was pretty laid back. Slept ’til 12, got up, took a shower, ate some breakfast, got dressed, and headed for the University. I was in the library on the computer basically all day, sending emails and doing research for my next steps. Can’t stay here with Andaiye forever. I didn’t leave the library until about 11:30. Why go all the way to the library to use my laptop you ask? Well, 1. we don’t have wireless in the flat yet, and every cafe charges for access, so I go and mooch of the libraries connection, and 2. I actually like the walk up to the University. Hey, it’s exercise and the scenery is always great to look at. Yeah, I know, I’m a nerd…so what. When I got home, we didn’t do anything but chill. We were supposed to go out, but I came home so late, and Andaiye didn’t call and remind me, so we jus stayed in and watched some Venture Bros. episodes. I also used this time to catch up on some phone calls and hear some friendly voices, didn’t get everybody I wanted, a couple voice mails, but time well spent.picture-0012.jpg

Today, was a lot more eventful. After chillin’ at the flat for a bit, Andaiye came back from her orientation and we headed into town pick up some things. So, let me tell you about their indoor outdoor malls, it’s quite interesting. So, from the street you can see a lot of the stores and storfronts, but you can walk through some of them to get into the mall. But once you walk through, you find that you’re outside again, even though you’re inside the mall…yup, you read that right. And “inside” the mall, just like regular malls, there are no doors to the stores, but it’s still outside, and it’s like they have this temperature forcefield instead of a door. It’s really peculiar. Once you walk through the archway into the store, you can’t feel the outside air anymore, it’s really like there’s a door there, BUT IT ISN’T. It’s so bizarre. So anyway, we’re shopping around, going to different stores, and standing line at our final stop. The style here is really nice, it’s a little posh, a little punk, and a little skateboard, it’s really cool. The clothes are nice, and I love the shops. Too bad I’m broke as a joke. A really bad, unfunny joke. Noooo really. While waiting at a register, I hear a young british woman cussing out her children becuase they were playing on the escalator and wouldn’t come down. Then she channeled her inner black mother, couldn’t finish her sentences, and dropped the “F’ bomb. Oh, it was funty. And then the little boy responded, in what sounded like cockney, “oI loiked it up the’e!” This had me rollin’ all day. I kept saying it out loud throughout the day, and it just got funnier and funnier. You had to hear it.

When we leaving the indoor outdoor mall I looked to my left and there were these doors leading out to this concrete landing/balcony and I caught a glimpse of one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. You could see the rolling hills, the lands, a beautiful church and steople, and to top it all off, it was kinda cloudy, but there were beams of sunlight streaming through the clouds. It was perfect. Me and Andaiye just stood there and took it all in. Here are some pix, but I don’t think they do it justice.

After that, we dropped the stuff off at home and headed to the University. Andaiye had some more orientation stuff to finish up and I headed to my favorite place, the library. It’s sad I know. I even sit in the same seat everytime I come. It’s on the second floor in this corner that has a great view of some of the campus. I can see people walking around, coming from the student union, right into the trees and far out houses. It’s a good spot. So after getting comfortable and nestling into my spot, I turned on the comp and started checking my email. And that’s when the sh** hit the fan. And I mean hard. First off, today and yesterday, me and Andaiye have been collecting app’s, because clearly we both need jobs. I don’t plan on staying here, but hey, just in case. So, I’m looking at all these app’s and they’re asking if you can legally work. Now, in order to work here, you have to have a work permit. I know that. But you can’t get one yourself, apparently, you’re job has to request it for you. Ok. But all these places are asking for the work permit. But wait…aren’t you supposed to help with that. Turns out I need a permit to get a job, but need a job to get a permit. What the hell is this vicious cycle about. But that’s not all. It turns out that Chris Jarman, who I met throught RSC (Royal Shakespeare Company, my dream company) my main London contact, the one that has been giving me the scoop on loads of info about the city and the biz, my new bud, the person I was going to crash with until I got the ball rolling on my temp job and started auditioning, tells me that he’s not in London, he’s in BULGARIA, shooting. Oh, but that’s not the bad news…When he’s done, he won’t be living in London anymore, he’s going back to his parents house (who stay northwest of London, apparently crowded there too) because of lack of jobs. GREAT! Well isn’t that just peachy-f**kin’ keen! There goes plan A right down the gutter. Now what? What’s next on the agenda? Seeing as how it just got ripped apart, gotta start over. But you know what? It’s cool. I’m meant to be here, and I still have my faith. Things are going to work out. Just as I found this out, another contact I have called me on my cell. Is this a sign? I hope so, because I’m gonna need it. Time to get on the grind and get all these other contacts together and start workin’ my magic on them. I’ll keep you updated. But hey, if you got any, let a brutha know cuz I’m calling in reinforcements.

So, after the crushing of my world, I decided to watch the new episodes of Heroes and JasleneAmerica’s Next Top Model Jasleneon YouTube to ease my mind. Boy, YouTube is such a beautiful thing. Since I’m in another country, I can’t watch the episodes on the sites. Isn’t that lovely. After that, I pick up my face, re-apply and swith up my game plan and get a new attitude. Just more adventure right? I’m gonna go out to the club, dance all night. Then tomorrow, figure out what’s next on the Agenda.
